Artist Statement - Voki!
Just in case you can't understand what the Voki is saying, here's the text!
Ever since I was in grade school, I had a strong interest in art. I've always loved drawing, and now that I'm older I've becomes comfortable drawing in my own style. My work is about color and design. I focus on how many brights colors can fuse together to make a successful piece. I experiment with different media, such as colored pencils, watercolor, and ink. I love adding different patterns to my designs, and creating deapth and texture. Beyond drawing, I have a passion for photography. Through experimenting with art, I've gone beyond the boundaries and found new techniques used in my pieces.

ARTIST REVIEW: Minjae Lee
The above works were created by artist, Minjae Lee, who is better known as greno89 on deviantart. Lee is an artist currently in Korea, his favorite style of art is abstract. I think that with his artist eye, and ability to draw figures and faces, he creates very successful pieces. He uses a lot of shapes and crazy colors, and they seamlessly work with his portraits of women. I like that he uses markers, colored pencils, water colors, and pencil for his pieces. Those are some of my favorite to work with. He is one of my favorite artists because he creates piece that make you feel something. You can see the emotions in the different faces and it makes you question the piece, getting the audience involved with his piece of artwork. How do his piece make you feel? Do you like how he works with the colors and patterns?

Current Concentration: Entangled
Yeah yeah, I know, I really snoozed on this concentration piece, but I got it done! If only I finished my second concentration from last quarter.. I'm definitely going to strive to get all of my work on this next semester! This piece started off as a sketch from a couple months back, just to practice drawing faces and whatnot again. I looked at it recently, and I really liked her expression and decided to add more onto it for the "Entangled" theme. In her hair are a few feathers, a jelly fish, twigs (not a vein, Nandini), and a dream catcher. All these things are tangled up in her hair! I used watercolor for the background and the rest is done in Prismacolor Colored Pencils. Here's some photos!
The sketch of my piece
The final product. Photo taken my Nandini's fabulous new iTouch.
I wish everyone luck for finals! :P Now back to studying!

Artist New Year's Resolution!
For this year, I'm trying a simpler approach to all of my New Year's resolutions. My main resolution for this year is to be happy. Sure, that sounds simple enough, but I can't tell you how many times I've let myself get stressed out about small details in my life. This year, I'm just going to remain a happy person, and not let anything get in my way. In addition to that, I'm going to set myself some resolutions as an artist. I don't want to keep a long list of things I'll never get to, so I'm just going to keep this short and simple.
- Create pieces that I'm proud of. I want to look back on a piece and have it reflect how much time and effort I put into it. This means starting projects when they're assigned, instead of sitting in class doing nothing.
- Take more photos. This year, I'm doing a 52 weeks project. That means for the next year, I'm going to a picture a week. I tried doing a 365 days project in 2009, which required me to take a picture everyday, and failed miserably after 45 days. This year, I want to use my camera more, I have new equipment and I'm going to make use of it!
I was going to list more things, but I think these two are good. Overall, I just want to leave high school and art class with a feeling of satisfaction. I hope everyone finds as much success or even more than I do this year! (:

Current Concentration Piece
This is my current concentration piece, it's for the third "entangled" piece. The first picture is a sketch of it, and the second picture is the final version I'm currently working on. In her hair are twigs, feathers, a jellyfish, and a dream catcher. All these things are tangled in her hair. Her face shows that she looks a little helpless and lost.
I finished my fourth piece inspired by Greg "Craola" Simkins this week. Here's a sketch of it below:
The finished piece doesn't look much like this sketch, but the basic concept is there. I wanted it to look like a portrait of this lady creature thing so I added an oval background to the final version. She has feathers on her shoulders, giving her a stronger silhouette. I've also been told that her face looks like a bird, and the weird substitute we had this week said she looks like a puffin, which a type of bird.
That's all for now! Hope everyone's having a swell weekend! (:
